CONSTITUTION OF THE PROBUS CLUB OF ANDOVER

1. Title : The Club shall be called the Probus Club of Andover
2. Aim: The aim of the Club shall be to promote good fellowship and shall have neither political nor sectarian associations.
a). The Club shall meet on the last Monday of each calendar month and the programme shall include lunch and, normally, a speaker. If the last Monday is a Bank Holiday, the meeting shall be held on the previous Monday. The monthly meetings shall not, normally, include a Ladies lunch or other social function.The December meeting shall be a suitable Social occasion and may be on any chosen day in that month.
b). Other social activities may be arranged as considered beneficial to the entertainment and interest of the Club.
a). Membership shall be open to all professional and business men residing in the Andover district who have partially or wholly retired from their business or profession or are aged 60 or over.
b). An applicant for membership shall be considered and approved or otherwise by the Committee after he has attended at least one meeting and has been proposed and seconded by two existing members.
c). Any member unable to attend a meeting shall inform the Treasurer or Assistant Treasurer (or if unable to contact them, shall inform any other member of the Committee) as soon as possible and not later than 7pm on the Monday prior to the meeting, otherwise he shall be normally liable for the luncheon charge.
d). Any member shall be entitled to bring a guest to a meeting of the Club. Notice of such invitations shall be given to Treasurer or Assistant Treasurer not later than 7pm on the Monday prior to the meeting.
e). A member who has not paid his annual subscription within two months after the Annual General Meeting shall be sent a reminder. If he does not then respond, his continuance as a member of the Club shall be considered by the Committee.
f). Total membership shall not exceed the number determined by the Committee.
5. Honorary Membership:
A member who has rendered outstanding service to the Club may be elected to Honorary membership by decision of the Committee.
a). There shall be a President, Vice-President, Secretary and Treasurer.
b). The Policy of the Club and its affairs shall be managed by a Committee comprising the officers listed at 6a above plus the Immediate Past President and other members as necessary. The Committee shall meet every month immediately prior to the main Club meeting. Responsibility for providing and managing Speakers and organising Social functions shall lie with the Committee members. All officers shall be honorary.
c). In the event of matters requiring urgent action, the President is empowered to convene a special Committee meeting.
d). An Annual General Meeting (AGM) shall be held at the March meeting each year. Notice of this shall be given by announcement at the February meeting.
e). The President will retire at the AGM and will normally be succeeded by the Vice-President of the preceding year; a new Vice-President will be elected at the same AGM
f). Subject to the exceptions mentioned in 6b & 6e (above), all officers will retire at the AGM but will be eligible for re-election.
g). The entrance fee and Annual Subscription will be set by the Committee and will be subject to ratification by members at the AGM. New Members shall in their first year pay the Annual Subscription pro rata the months of the Club year remaining after their month of joining, rounded up to the nearest pound.
